Hello,
I wanted to share a book with you today that I was asked to review, Mastering the Art of Fabric Printing and Design by Laurie Wisburn. This book is going on a blog tour and I am honoured to be the first to start it off. I have never done a review before but I thought this book was special because I would actually love to do most of the projects Laurie has so beautifully explained! She covers all aspects of printing your own fabric designs. From hand printing processes like block and stencil printing to screen printing and vat dyeing. Laurie also explains step by step how to create digital patterns using both Photoshop and Illustrator and the various ways to have your fabrics digitally printed. My wheels definitely got turning when I realized how easily I could turn some of my old watercolors into repeat patterns for fabrics. I would love to sew a dress for my daughter out of some fabric I designed! Decorative pillows for her room would be nice too. I also loved reading the section on the business of fabrics. Laurie interviews many different designers who have either developed their own brand or licensed their patterns to large fabric manufacturers. It is interesting to learn first hand from designers like Heather Ross and Kerry Cassill. Even though I spend a lot of time online, I still love books. This book is really informative and inspiring with some beautiful photography by Ryann Ford and styling by Robin Finlay. I wish Laurie much success on this wonderful book.
The blog book tour will be at Lena Corwin & Handmade Charlotte tomorrow, and then will continue on for two weeks. You can see the participants and the days they are posting right here.
See you back here soon,
xoleslie
